Let the anesthetic kick in
Just enough to know what’s happening
Its measured drips feeding my veins
As loving murmurs dull the dumbing down of pain

One drip for memory
Two drips for posterity
Three drips I see a light
Four drips, I’m catching flight

To no man’s land and this derelict aisle
This in-between so I might try for a while
To regain my composure
From the exposure

Of missing you
