Some songs stay with us for a lifetime

I’m delighted to share Sleeping Moon, a song that has been part of my life for many years and has finally found its voice.

Originally written for my best friend, Sleeping Moon began as a recording on cassette. It was one of those songs that stayed with me, even though I hadn’t yet found the opportunity to give it the musical expression I felt it deserved.

The cassette always held the bones of what I felt in my heart, but it’s only now that I’ve been able to truly let this song be itself.

When I returned to the original recording, I knew I wanted to rebuild it from scratch. As I began working on the arrangement, orchestral sounds started to form in my head. I could hear how the music might develop, with each new layer growing around the melody that was already there.

What began as a simple recording many moons ago gradually became something much bigger, while retaining the feeling and sentiment of the original song.

The music and the lyrics

For me, the lyrics are at the heart of Sleeping Moon. They tell a story that is deeply personal, but I also hope they leave room for you to find something of your own in them.

That’s one of the things I love about music. A song can begin with one person’s experience and take on a different meaning for someone listening to it.

I’ve also created an official lyric video, bringing the words and music together with beautiful original artwork by Roxie Grant / Raockshna Art. I love the way the artwork complements the atmosphere of the song, giving the lyrics their own visual setting.
